GENERAL INFORMATION

Team 451

  • Engineering Explorer Post 6201: Non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Allows students to explore a career in engineering. Registered Explorer Post with Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America).
  • Strive to be a student-led-team: Goal is to have students “drive the bus” while mentors “ride in the back”. Students learn to make key decisions while mentors provide feedback and advice.

FIRST Robotics Competition

  • New game every year: Game is announced first Saturday in January. Teams have roughly 6 weeks to design and build their robot.
  • Regional Competitions: Competing teams bring robots to 2-3 day competition. Up to 60 teams compete, and cooperate, at an event with the energy and excitement of a collegiate sporting tournament.
  • Opportunities for students: Scholarships, awards, internships, college recruitment, personal and professional networking. For more information see www.firstinspires.org.

Season Structure

  • Off season (Summer).  Tuesdays evenings only
    • Cost. $50 registration fee with Scouting America ($70 for returning) – Covers insurance cost
  • Pre-Competition (Fall). Tuesdays evenings only, more formal, fundraising
  • Competition (Winter/Spring). Major time commitment – Tuesdays evenings, Thursdays evenings, and Saturdays.
    • Competitions: Attend two non-local competition events, Thursday – Saturday.
    • Cost: $400 Build season and competition fee. Covers material, travel, and accommodations cost. Participation in team fundraisers counts towards this fee.

Student Requirements

  • High School Students
  • Grades: GPA >2.0
  • Fundraising opportunities: Lawnmower Winterization, Greek American Festival, BSA Popcorn.
