Allows students to explore a career in engineering. Registered <a href=\"https:\/\/joinexploring.org\/\">Explorer Post<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scouting.org\/\">Scouting America<\/a> (formerly Boy Scouts of America).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strive to be a student-led-team:<\/strong> Goal is to have students \u201cdrive the bus\u201d while mentors \u201cride in the back\u201d. Students learn to make key decisions while mentors provide feedback and advice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>FIRST Robotics Competition<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New game every year:<\/strong> Game is announced first Saturday in January. Teams have roughly 6 weeks to design and build their robot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Regional Competitions:<\/strong> Competing teams bring robots to 2-3 day competition. Up to 60 teams compete, and cooperate, at an event with the energy and excitement of a collegiate sporting tournament.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opportunities for students:<\/strong> Scholarships, awards, internships, college recruitment, personal and professional networking. For more information see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstinspires.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.firstinspires.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Season Structure<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Off season (Summer).<\/strong>\u00a0 Tuesdays evenings only\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cost.<\/strong> $70 registration fee with Scouting America &#8211; Covers insurance cost for the year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pre-Competition (Fall).<\/strong> Tuesdays evenings only, more formal, fundraising<\/li>\n<li><strong>Competition (Winter\/Spring).<\/strong> Major time commitment &#8211; Tuesdays evenings, Thursdays evenings, and Saturdays.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Competitions:<\/strong> Attend two non-local competition events, Thursday &#8211; Saturday.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cost:<\/strong> $400 Build season and competition fee. Covers material, travel, and accommodations cost.
